Appeal after cash-in-transit robbery in Leicester this morning (Friday February 3)
Detectives investigating a cash-in-transit robbery in Leicester this morning (February 3) are appealing for public help.
The incident took place at about 9.22am this morning in Queens Road when a security guard was approached by a man who demanded the cash box from her. No weapons were used during the incident.
The suspect grabbed the cash box and then ran towards a dark blue Audi which was parked on Queens Road.
Shortly afterwards around 9.30am the driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter van was stopped by the occupants of the Audi in Gartree Road, near Leicester Airport. The men assaulted the driver before making off in the van, registration number SO53 OOB, towards Leicester.
The van driver received minor injuries which didnt require medical treatment.
Detective Constable Kristine Howe is investigating the incident, she said: This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim and members of the public who were around the area at the time.
We would appeal to anyone who saw any part of the incident either in Queens Road or Gartree Road to contact us. We would also urge anyone who has seen the white van since 9.30am this morning either being parked or driven to contact us immediately.
