New names for care homes

Nine county council care homes will have new names when they transfer to Leicestershire County Care Ltd in the next few weeks.

The transfer will save the council 1 million per year, while retaining places for existing residents, safeguarding the jobs of existing staff and enabling improvements such as en-suite facilities.

The homes will transfer as soon as registration with the Care Quality Commission is completed.

David Sprason, Cabinet member for Adults and Communities, said: Im delighted that Leicestershire County Care Ltd will invest considerable sums to ensure high quality care and it has pledged to maintain employment.

This is the best result for residents, for staff and for Council Taxpayers, as it will ensure a quality service, while achieving value for money, with the council saving 1 million per year.

Leicestershire County Care Ltd has been set up by Southend Care, specifically to run the nine homes.

Dr Davie Vive-Kananda, managing director of Southend Care Ltd, said: Weve been working with the county council to ensure a smooth transition for residents and staff and we look forward to running an excellent service.

In June last year, the county council agreed to transfer nine of its 10 homes for older people, plus their existing residents and staff, to the independent sector. The council already commissions 85 per cent of its long-stay care placements from the independent sector.

The homes, plus their new names from the date of transfer, are:

Hadrian House, Thurmaston - Thurmaston Hall

Huntingdon Court, Loughborough - Loughborough Court

Harvey House, Barwell - Barwell Court

Kirby House, Kirby Muxloe - Kirby Lodge

Woodmarket House, Lutterworth - Lutterworth Court

Lenthall House, Market Harborough - Harborough Court

Curtis Weston House, Wigston - Wigston House

The Limes, Hinckley - Hinckley Hall

Tillson House, Coalville - Coalville House

The councils tenth home, Catherine Dalley House in Melton Mowbray, is proposed for redevelopment as an Extra Care scheme where people get homes or flats with care support with specialist dementia care. This is subject to a separate procurement process.
