Police are issuing personal safety advice after a number of robberies and thefts in the Victoria Park area.

Detectives are currently investigating whether or not they may be linked.

The most recent of these happened at around 6pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, January 25) when the 22-year-old victim was walking through the middle of the park heading towards the corner with the pavilion.

He was approached by a man who asked him for the time before asking the victim to show him his phone.

The victim was then assaulted and the suspects made off with his black iPhone.

The first suspect is described as in his early 20s, around 5 11" tall, slim build and spoke, spoke in foreign accent. He was wearing a black top, dark bottoms, had dark short hair to back and sides and had a distinctive straight fringe across his forehead.

The second suspect, who was with the first man, is described as in his early 20s, around 58 tall and of medium build. He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hood and black stripes on the hood.

DC Jon Davies said: Officers are looking into a number of lines of enquiry and working hard to try and locate those responsible for these incidents.

We would urge everyone who uses this park, particularly in the dark to take a few personal safety precautions.

  • Walk with friends rather than alone,
  • Dont walk with your phone in your hand,
  • Stick to lit routes in the dark
  • Do not walk with your phone in your hand and valuables on display.

We would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the above incident, has seen any suspicious activity in the park, or who thinks they may know who is responsible to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to call DC 2068 Jon Davies on 101 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 2068. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111
