Little Bowden celebrates top-notch rating

Children and staff at a Harborough primary school are celebrating after receiving a top-notch rating from inspectors.

A new Ofsted report published last week grades Little Bowden School 'good' and praises pupils' progress and achievements.

Inspectors, who visited the school in December, said the school is safe, caring and supporting, and a place where pupils are valued and respected.

Standards of English and maths amongst year six children show good progress, say inspectors.

The report says that managers have introduced new systems and raised standards through better teaching.

To help the school continue to improve, inspectors advised sharpening existing assessment procedures and using this to further inform lesson-planning.

Colin Miller, Interim Headteacher at Little Bowden School, said: All of the children, staff and governors should be very proud of their school. The senior leadership team are already developing an action plan to ensure that the areas highlighted for improvement will become areas of strength in the very near future."

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for the children and young people's service, said: "This is a great Ofsted report which shines a light on the high standards pupils are reaching and the dedication of staff and governors.

"After a difficult few months, this is the tonic the school needed and I'd like to congratulate the pupils, teachers, governors and parents on the rating."

Schools can be rated either outstanding, good, satisfactory or inadequate.

The full report is available on Ofsted's website at: www.ofsted.gov.uk
