Officers from Harborough local policing unit are appealing for witnesses after a number of incidents of damage in Broughton Astley.

Police have received six reports of properties and vehicles being damaged in the Coltsfoot Way area during the evening of Tuesday December 27 and early hours of Wednesday December 28, 2011.

Sometime between 8pm and 4.30am wing mirrors were taken off two cars parked in Grange Road and Estley Road.

Four of the incidents occurred in Coltsfoot Way. A car windscreen was smashed, damage was caused to the roof of a car and the front window of a house was damaged after stones were thrown at it.

During one incident in Coltsfoot Way an attempt has been made to steal a car but the offender was disturbed. A man was seen running away from the scene of this incident.

He has been described as being 15-20 years-old, 56-58 tall and of slim build. He was wearing a light coloured hooded top with the hood pulled up over his head, dark bottoms and dark trainers.

PC Vanessa Thomas is investigating some of the incidents, she said: This type of thoughtless vandalism ends up costing hundreds of pounds to put right, whoever has committed these offences had no regard for the affect their actions may have on the victims and the local community.

Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Broughton Astley and we would like to reassure local people that we are investigating all the reports and are carrying out high visibility patrols in the area.

If anyone has any information about the incidents or the person responsible then we would urge them to contact the police. Did you see anyone running away from the area between these times?

Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us with our enquiries. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4265 Vanessa Thomas on 101*, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4265. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free** and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

* Calls to 101 cost 15p for the entire call from both mobile phones and land lines

** Please note some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
