Appeal for witnesses after elderly woman is victim of burglary in Loughborough
Police are appealing for public help after an elderly woman was the victim of a distraction burglary in Loughborough.
The incident took place at about 8pm on Friday December 30 in the Valley Road area of Loughborough when the victim answered the door to a man who claimed that he had seen someone acting suspiciously around the back of the house.
The suspect entered the property and whilst the victim was distracted by him a second man entered the property and stole cash.
The suspects were both in their early 20s and about 58 tall. One of the suspects was wearing a top which had four badges on the front left hand side.
Detective Constable Paul Burchell is investigating the incident, he said: The suspects sounded very plausible and have been described as being well-spoken.
This was a despicable crime against an elderly person in their home and we need to catch the people responsible.
We would urge anyone who was visited in similar circumstances or saw two men acting suspiciously around the area to contact us.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 1340 Paul Burchell on 101*, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1340. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free** and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
* Calls to 101 cost 15p for the entire call from both mobile phones and land lines
** Please note some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
