Appeal following racially aggravated assault in Charles Street
City officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the report of a racist assault on the number 54 bus in Leicester.
The incident happened at about 3.45pm on Friday October 21,when the victim, who was with her children, was racially abused by two other passengers, a man and woman, as she got on the bus.
She was then assaulted by one of the passengers, the man, who punched her in the face.
The two suspects got off the bus on Marwood Road in Beaumont Leys.
The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident but did not require hospital treatment.
The female suspect has been described as being white, aged in her thirties with brown hair. The man has been described as also being white, of skinny build, between 59 and 510 tall with unkempt ginger hair and a ginger beard. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a dark grey hooded top with pockets on front and light blue jeans.
They had two children with them at the time of the incident, one of which was in a pushchair.
PC Louise McMahon, the investigating officer, said: This is being treated as a racially aggravated assault because of the language used by the two suspects.
Although the victim was not seriously injured the behaviour carried out by the two adults responsible is not acceptable and is not something that we at Leicestershire Constabulary will tolerate.
If you were on the bus or in Charles Street that day you might be able to help us. Do you remember seeing a man and woman matching the descriptions? Do you know who they are? Were you on the bus at the time of the assault? If so please get in touch.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4695 Louise McMahon by dialing 101. Follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer, and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4695. Alternatively, you may contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
* Please note, some mobile phone networks may charge for this call.
