Road safety boost for Castle Donington

Speed-busting measures designed to slow drivers in a North West Leicestershire village are complete.

The package of improvements along High Street, Castle Donington, has been introduced by Leicestershire County Council this summer, in response to concerns about speeding.

It includes flashing signs which display a blank face until activated by vehicles approaching at excessive speeds. They then flash the roads speed limit to remind motorists to slow down.

The 35,000 scheme was completed last month and includes widened footways and sheltered parking bays to make the road narrower and easier to cross.

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "High Street is a very busy route through Castle Donington and I'm pleased we have been able to respond to villagers concerns about speeding traffic.

"The new measures will encourage motorists to slow down and improve the area for the community."
