Schools save energy and money

Schools are being encouraged to apply for funding to save energy and money by Leicestershire County Council.

Schools can apply for an interest-free loan to fund energy-saving projects, which is then re-paid using the money they save.

The Invest to Save fund (also called the SALIX or WILLOW fund) is available by applying to the County Council. The money comes from the Council and the Government.

The fund pays for the cost of a schools compliant energy-saving project. Energy use at the school will then fall and the project cost is re-paid with the savings made from reduced bills.

Projects could include energy-efficient lighting, loft insulation or swimming pool covers to give just a few examples.

Leicestershire County Council prides itself on providing high quality, value for money services.

So far, 22 schools have gained funding across Leicestershire but the County Council is encouraging more county schools to apply.

Graham Hart, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Support Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: This is an excellent scheme which is a great example of how the County Council is promoting projects which help the environment and save money.
