Four sentenced following covert drugs operation
Quailey, Umratia, Harty and Simon
Four people have been sentenced at Leicester Crown Court following a covert drugs operation by Leicestershire Constabularys crime support unit.
Steffan Michael Simon (33), Ezrah Quailey (28), Dipika Arun Umratia (24) all of Leicester and Theresa Harty (27) of Earl Shilton were all sentenced today (Friday July 29).
Simon was sentenced to ten years in prison after being found guilty at an earlier hearing to conspiracy to supply a Class A controlled drug, and possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.
Quailey was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to conspiracy to supply a Class A controlled drug and possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.
Umratia was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to conspiracy to supply a Class A controlled drug.
Harty was sentenced to six months, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to allowing premises to be used for the production of Class A controlled drugs.
The operation, codenamed Operation Wipeout, commenced in November 2009 following intelligence about Simon and the supply of drugs.
More than a kilo of Heroin was recovered during the operation with the street value of more than 45,000.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Hewson of Leicestershire Constabulary crime support unit, led the operation, he said: The offenders went to great lengths to disguise what they were doing, the drugs were concealed in empty cereal boxes in a carrier bag along with milk cartons, so it looked like they had just been shopping.
More than a kilo of Heroin was seized during the operation, if that Heroin was cut with impurities that kilo would be more like 2-3 kilos, this operation has prevented a large amount of illegal drugs from hitting the streets of Leicestershire.
I believe that todays sentencing reflects the seriousness of this crime and hope that it sends a clear message to those people who believe they are above the law, we will carry on with these operations to reduce access to illegal drugs and we will catch up with you.
If anyone has any information about drugs misuse they should contact Leicestershire Constabulary on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 or Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
