New look for Lount recycling centre

A recycling centre in North West Leicestershire is set for an ultra-modern make-over.

Leicestershire County Council is revamping Lount recycling and household waste site and transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility which will be twice as big.

The new-look site will have a modern design and offer ample parking space, clear signs, easy-to-access containers without steps and recycling for a range of materials.

The 1million improvements are designed to boost recycling and cut the amount of rubbish sent to landfill.

To enable the revamp to take place safely, the Lount site will close for six months from Monday, 18th July. During this time, homeowners are asked to use the nearest alternative sites at Coalville and Shepshed.

Richard Blunt, Leicestershire County Council's cabinet member for waste management, said: "We want to make it easier for residents by replacing an old-fashioned site with a state-of-the-art facility offering improved access.

"We apologise for any inconvenience but would encourage residents to use alternative facilities during the revamp.

"With landfill tax set to increase by over 40 per cent in the next three years, reducing the amount of rubbish sent there is a top priority. Leicestershire is already a top county partnership for recycling but we're keen to increase this further."

The County Council runs 14 recycling and household waste sites across Leicestershire where residents can recycle a huge variety of items including cooking oil, Tetra Paks, batteries and yoghurt pots, as well as dispose of household rubbish

Over 70% of rubbish taken to the sites is recycled.

For more information on recycling, please visit the County Council's website at www.leics.gov.uk/waste or call 0116 305 0001.
