Police Report 20 Weekend Drink Drive Arrests Total 84
Police in Leicestershire arrested 20 drink drivers in enforcements over the weekend as part of the Sober and Motoring (SAM) campaign initiative, taking the total to 84 since June 1, 2011. Two of the 20 positive breath tests were provided by drivers breathalysed at the scene of road traffic collisions.
Inspector Vivienne Brenchley of the Roads Policing Unit at Leicestershire Constabulary said, Drink Driving can be fatal. When local police officers arrive at the scene of a road traffic collision, they never know the full extent of the injuries sustained or damage caused.
Less people would be dying on our roads if more of us made the wise choice to completely sober when motoring. Drink driving seriously affects your reaction time and impairs your ability to drive safety.
The Sober and Motoring (SAM) campaign runs from Wednesday June 1 to Thursday June 30, 2011. Police request that communities keep their eyes and ears open this summer, appealing to them to make a note of the registration plate and the direction of travel and call the police on 0116 222 2222 if they see a person who appears to be drunk, leave a premises and then enter a vehicle to drive away.
