Leicestershire school showcases new curriculum

Representatives from schools across Leicestershire will be learning about an innovative new curriculum at Kirby Muxloe Primary School.

The school has been chosen by the Leicestershire County Council as the venue for a Curriculum Innovation day because of the excellent work the school has done.

Kirby Muxloe Primary has been working with Leicestershire County Council to develop the exciting new curriculum.

This involves much greater theme-based learning which gives pupils more opportunity to use their reading, writing and maths skills across a variety of different subjects.

Subjects taught do still concentrate predominantly on one area of the curriculum, but more is done to incorporate other areas too.

The school has developed the curriculum so that continues to meet the needs of children and recommendations by Ofsted.

Further to this, Kirby Muxloe Primary School will be offering support to other schools that wish to develop and revise their curriculum on similar lines.

Suki Hundal, head teacher at Kirby Muxloe Primary School, said: We are thrilled with how well our new curriculum is working. Parents and children have been very receptive to the work we have been doing to ensure we have an exciting and innovative curriculum.

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: Engaging pupils in learning is very important. Im delighted to hear Kirby Muxloe Primary has made such significant strides forward to develop their curriculum and are now sharing their expertise with other schools.

The Curriculum Innovation day will be held on Wednesday, October 5th.
