Loughborough school boosts its Ofsted rating

Pupils, parents, staff and governors at Thorpe Acre Junior School are celebrating after Government inspectors gave the school an improved Ofsted rating.

At its last inspection, the school was given a notice to improve but after much hard work the school has achieved a satisfactory rating with good capacity for further improvement.

Ofsted praised the progress made by pupils and the extent to which they enjoy their learning.

The schools inspection report says that pupils positive attitudes to learning ensure they listen carefully, help each other, and persevere with challenging tasks. Pupils behaviour is also said to have improved since the schools last report.

Ofsted said new staffing appointments have brought good teaching and lessons across the whole school.

The head teacher and the rest of the senior leadership team were praised for successfully driving improvement at the school, including motivating staff and accelerating pupils progress.

The good range of visits, visitors and well-attended extra-curricular clubs and activities were highlighted in the report. The report says activities covering sport and the arts enrich the curriculum and contribute to pupils learning and personal development.

Ofsted said safeguarding procedures, including those for child protection, are good. The report states that all parents and carers say the school keeps their children safe, and pupils say they feel safe and well cared for in school.

Jo Beaumont, head teacher at Thorpe Acre Junior School, said: Everyone associated with the school is thrilled with our latest Ofsted report. This is down to a lot of hard work by the pupils and staff. Im delighted inspectors have recognised the effort that has been put in and the many positive achievements of our school.

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: Its very pleasing to see such progress since the schools last report. Ofsted asked the school to improve and thats exactly what theyve done. The fact that the schools capacity to improve is rated as good shows that we can expect even more improvement and greater success from Thorpe Acre Junior School.
