Police name victim of fatal collision in Somerby

Officers from the Forces Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the report of a fatal collision in Somerby.

The incident happened at about 11.35am on Wednesday June 15, on the A606 Oakham Road.

The collision involved two vehicles, a red Yamaha Fazer motorbike and a green Skoda Felicia.

The driver of the motorbike, Mr Ross Andrew Jackson (59) of Stamford in Lincolnshire,received serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, where he later died.

The driver of the Skoda received minor injuries and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been discharged.

Detective Constable Nick Bryan, the investigating officer, said: The motorbike was travelling towards Oakham and the Skoda was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision happened, at the crossroads known locally as Leesthorpe.

I would like to appeal for who saw the collision or either vehicles prior to it to call us immediately and help us with our enquiries.
