Police officers in Lutterworth and Broughton Astley have held a series of speeding and road safety checks.

Officers spent Friday 20th May 2011 checking the speed of vehicles in and around Dunton Road in Broughton Astley; Dunton Basset and Brookfield Way in Lutterworth. They stopped and checked 21 vehicles. The majority of motorists received verbal advice and road safety literature for being slightly over the speed limit. Unfortunately speeds of up to 46 mph in a 30mph residential limit were still detected and dealt with via a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN). A separate vehicle was also found to have a completely bald rear tyre offering no grip and affecting the drivers and passenger safety.

Two Fixed Penalty Notices were also issued for excess speed and a PG9 prohibition was served in relation to the bald tyre. This ensures the fault is rectified immediately before the vehicle is used on a road again

PC 1088 Paul Hardwick who ran the initiative said; Whilst our overall aim was to educate as many drivers as possible and increase road safety, any people caught travelling well in excess of the speed limit or driving with a seriously defective vehicles would still face enforcement action.
