Latest technology improves school governance
School governors are using the latest technology to help boost standards of education in Leicestershire.
Leicestershire County Council has made a new electronic system called the Governance Self Evaluation Tracker (GSET) available to all schools in the county.
The county council is one of the first local authorities in the country to do this and nearly half of Leicestershires schools have already taken up the offer.
GSET assesses the strengths and weaknesses of a schools governing body. The web-based system asks governing bodies to describe their roles and responsibilities to evaluate how effective they are.
Following this, an action plan is produced to help the governing body to improve their standards.
Leadership and management, not only of heads and teachers, but also of governors is a key part of Ofsted inspections at schools.
Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: By using GSET governors are showing their commitment to providing the very highest standards of leadership in their schools.
We already have more than 70 per cent of schools in Leicestershire which are rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted. School governors in Leicestershire are determined to improve standards of education in the county even further and we will support them in any way that we can.
