Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Memory Lane, Leicester.

The incident happened at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, May 17 while the victim was stood at the junction of Memory Lane and Belgrave Gate.

Two men on pedal cycles approached the victim from behind and pulled her Hijab down over her face, before assaulting her.

A Blackberry mobile phone and an Apple iPhone 4 were taken in the incident.

Both suspects are described as white and were wearing grey hooded tops and jogging bottoms. The second is described as having a shaved head. They were both riding BMX bikes.

Detective Constable Chris Webster, who is investigating the incident said: This incident has understandably left the victim feeling extremely shaken and upset. There is nothing to indicate at this stage that this was a racially or religiously motivated incident.

I would urge anyone who was in the area yesterday to please think back. This is a busy area and is one of the main routes in and out of the city. If it is a route you use on a regular basis please try to recall if you were in the area yesterday afternoon.

There is a college nearby and it may be that you were making your way home from there, or on your way into the city. I would ask anyone who thinks they may have seen something to get in touch. It could help with our enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 779 Chris Webster, on 0116 222 2222 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted, key in his identification number 0779. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

*Please note, some mobile phone providers may charge for this call.
