Outstanding! Highest ever rating for Hinckley school
Pupils, parents, staff and governors at Westfield Infant School in Hinckley are celebrating after being judged as outstanding the highest rating possible by Ofsted for the first time.
Government inspectors praised pupils excellent level of achievement during their time at the school. They said pupils standards in English and maths are below average when they join the school, but by the end of Year 2 they have improved significantly and are above average with pupils taking clear pride in what they do and how they present their work.
The report highlights pupils highly positive attitude towards learning and their exemplary behaviour.
The schools curriculum is also praised. Inspectors say the curriculum is well-organised and exceptionally well-adapted to meet the needs of all pupils.
It is stated that procedures at the school run like clockwork and no time is wasted, so that full attention is given to fulfilling every childs needs.
Leadership and management at the school at all levels are described as outstanding. The report says the head teacher focuses on continuous improvement and that significant progress has been made since the schools last inspection.
The very high quality of teaching is also highlighted in the report. Inspectors noted that close attention is paid to improving pupils core skills and that lessons are planned carefully to ensure pupils learn systematically and at a fast pace.
The governing body at Westfield is praised too. The report says members are ambitious and proactive in their work and are committed and influential in determining strategy and evaluating the school and holding it to account.
Jill MacLauchlan, head teacher at Westfield Infant School, said: Everyone at the school is delighted we have received such an excellent report from Ofsted.
I would like to thank pupils, parents, staff and governors for all their hard work which has led to the schools success.
Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Lead Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: The outstanding Ofsted report shows the superb quality of education provided by Westfield Infant School.
I would like to congratulate the school on its achievement and am sure it will continue to go from strength to strength.
Westfield Infant School has an age range of 4-7 years. It is larger than most infant schools and currently has 265 pupils on roll.
