Police are appealing for information after Easter eggs were stolen which was destined for a local community project.

The theft happened on Wednesday April 20, 2011 between 2pm and 2.45pm when the 100 Cadburys eggs were stolen from a blue Skoda which was parked on Sainsburys car park on Belgrave Road.

These eggs were due to be given to under privileged children and young people from the local community project for St Matthewss estate, called Contact Project.

PC Catherine Riches, who is investigating the incident, said: Staff and volunteers at the project are really disappointed that someone would commit such a despicable crime and steal eggs which were for children who are not unfortunate enough to have eggs at Easter.

Someone may have seen these eggs being loaded into another vehicle at the time but thought nothing of it. If you did witness the eggs being stolen or have any information regarding the thieves responsible to please contact police.

Alternatively, if anyone has been approached by someone trying to sell Cadburys Easter eggs in suspicious circumstances, it may be connected to this crime, so we would please ask them to get in touch.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4047 Catherine Riches on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4047. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
