Police are appealing for public help following the report of a robbery in Humberstone Gate, Leicester.

The incident happened at approximately 5.30pm on Thursday April 14, when the 19-year-old victim was approached by a man, who asked her for the time, as she waited for a bus.

The victim checked the time on her iPhone and as she turned to tell the man he pushed her and grabbed her phone.

The victim then chased the man as he ran along Humberstone Gate towards Lee Street. When they reached Lee Street the suspect turned to the victim and hit her in the chest before running off.

The man has been described as having dark skin, of chubby build and approximately 54 tall. He is about 20 to 22-years-old, had short black hair and was dressed all in black.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call them immediately.

Detective Constable Anna Siveter, the investigating officer, said: The victim chased the man for some time so there were a number of opportunities for members of the public to get a good view of him. I hope that anyone who saw the incident or knows the suspect will call us to help us with our enquiries.

At 5.30pm the Humberstone Gate area would have been very busy with people leaving work and travelling to and from Leicester on the buses. If you can remember being in the area then I would urge you to think back.

Can you remember seeing the incident? Did you see the victim chasing the man along Humberstone Gate? Do you know the suspect and do you know where he lives? If so please get in touch.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4530 Anna Siveter (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4530. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
