Luke Baker and Christopher Mills

Two men were sentenced yesterday (Wednesday April 13, 2011) at Leicester Crown Court in connection with a number of burglaries.

Luke Baker, 21, of Broughton Rd, Rugby, Warwickshire and Christopher Mills, 22, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Baker was sentenced to six years imprisonment whilst Mills was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence for Public Protection (IPP) which means he will have to serve a minimum of six years before he can be considered for parole.

Baker pleaded guilty in connection with the following offences. Mills pleaded guilty to the aggravated burglary in Shawell.

  • On August 10, 2010 a quantity of cash was stolen from a house in Husbands Bosworth.
  • On August 16, 2010 two televisions were stolen from a house in Swinford.
  • In the evening of September 9, 2010 the owner of the property in Arnesby answered the door to three men who forced their way in and threatened her at knifepoint. They made off with a quantity of cash and a mobile phone. The victim was not injured.
  • In the evening of September 14, 2010 the owner of a property in Shawell answered the door to three men who forced their way in and assaulted her. The woman managed to escape and was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries. A search was made of the address and a quantity of cash was stolen.

Detective Sergeant Sue Jones, who was part of the investigation team, said: These offences were particularly terrifying for the victims. Not only did the defendants use threats of violence against them but their own homes were violated in the process.

This has left a significant detrimental mark on the victims and their families and I hope the sentences these men have received will not only provide justice for them but also send a clear message that when they are caught they will be put before a court and sent to prison."
