Serious road traffic collision on M6 motorway at Catthorpe

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M6 motorway at Catthorpe.

The collision happened at around 7.15am on Monday April 4, 2011 on the M6 southbound carriageway about 100 metres from the A14 slip road.

Five vehicles were involved in the collision. These were a silver and blue DAF HGV, a white Mercedes Sprinter van, a grey Nissan Pixo, a white Vauxhall Vivaro van and a black BMW 3 series.

The driver of the Pixo was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver and passenger in the Mercedes van and the driver and passenger in the Vauxhall Van were all taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment to minor injuries.

The drivers of the HGV and BMW were not injured.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Nick Bryan, who is investigating the collision, said: We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw any of the vehicles before the incident to call us and help us with our investigation.
