Improvements to day services discusse

Improvements to day services for older people and people with disabilities are to be discussed by Leicestershire County Council.

The ruling Cabinet is set to agree a new strategy, to make day services more joined up and targeted on peoples individual needs.

Day services are currently provided by the council, the independent and voluntary sectors, in either traditional day centres or schemes in the community.

The new strategy will change the way services are delivered, by making them more personalised and focussed on promoting independence.

David Sprason, Cabinet member for Adults and Communities, said: Everything we do now is about helping people to become more independent and focussing services on the people with the greatest needs.

Thats why were proposing these changes, to ensure that day services help people to achieve this.

The proposed changes would involve moving away from a five-day-per-week service for everyone, to a service targeted on peoples individual needs. This could include multi-use resource centres, used by a range of groups.

Proposals for a multi-use centre in Loughborough will be discussed by cabinet next month (May).

Cabinet will discuss the report at 2pm on Tuesday, April 5th.
