Parish council help keep Burbage officers in the heart of the community.

The neighbourhood beat team for Burbage have been handed keys to a new office in the village.

Following a comprehensive review of all police buildings, carried out over the last eighteen months, the existing office in Burbage, on Lychgate Lane, was no longer deemed suitable. But thanks to the kind offer from Burbage Parish Council the beat team will remain in the village in an office at the Millennium Hall, Britannia Road, Burbage.

Their new office is equipped with a police mobile data terminal, which will allow officers to have secure access to police systems; which is so vital to their work. Officers will be able to access police systems and meet residents in between their patrols whilst remaining in the village.

Neighbourhood beat officer Pc 2073 Neil Jones said; We are really pleased with the office. This means we can carry on working right in the heart of the community, and not have to keep returning to Hinckley. We have storage for our equipment including our bikes, so the public will still be able to see us regularly in the village.

The Chairman of Burbage Parish Council, John Moore, said; "We already have a close working relationship with the beat team and I believe this move will enhance this further.

Inspector Rich Ward, Commander of Hinckley and Bosworth local policing unit said: It is a very positive move. The Millennium Hall is a busy community building which is used by a wide range of people. Basing themselves there will increase the visibility of the team and enable them to hold beat surgeries where community groups already meet.

Police beat surgeries that have always been held on the same days as Burbage farmers market will continue, but at the new location. This is the first Saturday of every month between the hours or 10am and 2pm.
