Novelists and history experts visit Oadby and Wigston Libraries

Theres lots to see and learn about at events in Leicestershire County Councils libraries in Oadby & Wigston this month.

War veterans can bring their photos, films, badges and Royal British Legion memorabilia to Oadby Library and Wigston Magna Library to discuss the fascinating stories behind these objects with a historian.

These free workshops, which take place between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday 9th March (Oadby) and between 3pm and 6pm on Tuesday 22nd March (Wigston), are part of a landmark project, led by Leicestershire County Council, designed to mark the 90th anniversary of the Legion.

Community Archaeologist Peter Liddle will give a discussion on the Hallaton Treasure as part of the continuing Listen While You Lunch events. His talk begins at 1pm at Wigston Magna Library on Thursday 10th March and tickets cost 2 each including light refreshments.

Also in March, Leicestershire Libraries will be hosting a series of talks by published authors called Words On The Street.

Glyn Iliffe, Leicestershire author of the Adventures of Odysseus books set in the quasi-historical world of Greek mythology, will be appearing at Wigston Library on Thursday 17 March at 7pm. Tickets cost 2.

Sophie Hannah, author of six unsettling psychological dramas (one of which, The Point Of Rescue, will be televised on ITV1 later in the year), will be giving her talk at Oadby Library on Friday 25th March at 7pm, followed by a book signing. Tickets cost 3.

And as part of Oadby Neighbourhood Action Week there will be a free health & wellbeing morning on Tuesday 8th March between 10am and 1pm which will feature health checks, gentle exercise, walking, advice, massage, and fairtrade refreshments.
