Officers from the city centre are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at a construction site.

The incident took place sometime between 4.30pm on Thursday February 10 and 7am on Friday February 11 in Burnmoor Street, Leicester.

The site was broken into and thousands of pounds worth of copper cabling and piping was stolen.

PC Waheed Nagdi is investigating the incident, he said: A large amount of copper was stolen from the site and it may have taken a number of people and possibly a vehicle to take it away.

It is believed that dustbins were used to carry the items from the site, the bins were sprayed with white paint stating 1st floor and 2nd floor, if you have come across these bins I would appeal for you to contact the police.

We are particularly keen to trace the whereabouts of the stolen copper and urge anyone who knows someone who has recently acquired a large amount of cabling or piping to contact us. Have you been approached by someone selling similar items in suspicious circumstances?

Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in Burnmoor Street or any unusual vehicles not usually seen in the area either being parked or driven sometime between the evening of Thursday February 10 and early hours of Friday February 11?

If you can assist with any part of the investigation then I would ask that you contact the police immediately. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 2851 Waheed Nagdi on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 2851. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
