Police have charged ten more men and one boy in connection with the disturbances during and after the October protests on Humberstone Gate East.

Officers have been investigating a number of offences since the demonstrations on October 9, 2010 which saw counter protests between the English Defence League (EDL) and Unite Against Fascism (UAF) in Leicester city centre.

15 men and one woman were arrested on the day and 10 were charged with 17 offences ranging from Public order, Criminal Damage, possession of an offensive weapon and drugs offences.

However, subsequent crimes were reported to the police following the protest including disorder at some city centre restaurants. As a result of these investigations, 16 more people were arrested.

Of these, ten men aged between 18 and 44, most of whom are from outside the Leicestershire area, and a boy aged 14 have been charged with a total of 16 offences ranging from attempted criminal damage to affray. Three have received police cautions and one remains on bail.

Those charged will appear at Leicester Magistrates Court between 14 and 21 February 2011. One man will appear on March 15.

It brings the total number of people charged in connection with the incidents to 24. Nine men have already appeared in court for their part in the protest on the day.

A 24-year-old man from Wigston was ordered to pay a total of 405 at a hearing on January 11, after pleading guilty to Section 5 public order. And a 38-year-old man from Gateshead received a 6-month conditional discharge and 50 costs after being found guilty of Section 5 public order on January 18.

A 22-year-old man has had his hearing adjourned until April after pleading to Section 5 public order and a 30-year-old man was found guilty of Possession of Class A drugs, Common Assault and obstructing a police officer. He will appear back in court on February 21.

They join the 4 men who were convicted last year.

A 22-year-old man from Leicester pleaded guilty on November 5 to racially aggravated section 5 public order, drunken and disorderly behaviour and breach of a section 27 order. He received a total of 200 in fines.

A 39-year-old man from the Saffron Lane area was ordered to 50 costs and issued with a 12-month conditional discharge at a Magistrates hearing on November 10.

A 27-year-old man from Stoke on Trent received 415 fines for section 5 public order offences on November 26.

And a 27-year-old man from Long Eaton in Derbyshire was given an 8-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a total of 230 fines for racially aggravated public order and obstructing a police officer.

A 30-year-old man from Abergele will appear at Leicester Magistrates on March 10.

The case against a man from Holland was dropped.

Investigations into other offences on the day of the protests are still ongoing with at least 4 people still due to answer bail in the coming weeks.
