Jewellery similar to the items stolen during burglary

Detectives investigating a high value burglary in Leicester have released photographs of jewellery similar to that stolen in a bid to trace the items.

The incident took place sometime between 9pm and 9.40pm on Thursday January 13, a house in The Circle in the Spinney Hill area of Leicester was broken into and thousands of pounds worth of property was stolen.

Amongst the property stolen were a number of items of Asian gold jewellery, mostly Sudanese or Palestinian gold. The stolen jewellery included rings, necklaces and bracelets, some of the jewellery was made with different types of Sovereign coins.

Also stolen was a medal in the shape of a cross, which is about 100 years old and was awarded to the victims grandfather for his services to the British Empire in Sudan.

Detective Constable Sarah Poppleton is investigating the incident, she said: The victim has been left distraught by the incident. The jewellery is of great sentimental value to her and has been passed through many generations of the family.

The images are of jewellery similar to some of the items stolen, we would urge jewellers and pawn brokers to have a look at the images and contact us if they have been approached by someone selling similar items or even visited by someone asking for them to value the items.

We are also keen to speak to anybody who saw someone acting suspiciously in the area on Thursday January 13 or who knows who may be responsible for the burglary. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.

A reward has also been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible and the return of the stolen items.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4088 Sarah Poppleton on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4088. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
