Driving down speed in Normanton le Heath

New measures aimed at reducing traffic speeds in a North West Leicestershire village are complete.

Work to bring in improvements costing 8,000 along Heather Lane in Normanton le Heath finished just before Christmas.

The boost includes new vehicle activated signs in the village centre which flash when triggered by motorists travelling at excessive speeds.

Wooden gates have also been added at the village entrances to remind drivers they are within a 30mph limit.

The parish council-funded scheme was designed and constructed by Leicestershire County Council.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: The local community were very concerned about traffic speeds and successfully secured funding to address this.

Working together, the parish and County Council have delivered a solution that will benefit the people living in the village and especially the school children who cross Heather Lane to get their bus.
