First-First-ever students at Melton Vale Post 16 Centreever students at Melton Vale Post 16 Centre

The new 13 million Melton Vale Post 16 Centre will open to its first-ever students next week.

The exciting new centre will open on Wednesday, January 12th eight months earlier than planned due to the speedy progress made on the new building.

The first students will transfer from the sixth form at King Edward VII School, which is on the same site.

Melton Vale Post 16 Centre, which can be abbreviated to MV16, is opening as part of Leicestershire County Councils 45 million reorganisation of education in Melton Mowbray and the Vale of Belvoir.

The first students will be joined by current Year 11 students at Long Field School, John Ferneley College and Belvoir High School once they finish their studies at their respective schools and move up to the centre in the autumn, 2011 term.

The Melton Vale Post 16 Centre includes:

  • Four learning zones dedicated to different areas of study. They are Communications, Discovery, Society and Creativity
  • A two-storey Learning Resource Centre with a library, ICT facilities and study areas, so students can study in small groups or take in their laptops and work by themselves
  • Modern, state-of-the-art science laboratories, including a sports science lab
  • A dance and drama studio which can be expanded into the dining area for seating with additional seating on huge tiered stairs in an auditorium-style setting
  • Flexible learning areas with moveable partitions. Areas can be reduced in size or expanded and there are huge areas and alcoves, to suit any style of learning
  • A large inspiring space for a caf culture style area for dining and socialising, instead of the traditional sixth form centre in an enclosed room.

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: This is a very important milestone in the reorganisation of schools in Melton Mowbray and the Vale of Belvoir.

Students are tremendously excited about starting at MV16 which will provide a first-class standard of education in a wonderful new state-of-the-art learning environment, which it is hoped will lead to even better outcomes for young people.
