Cutting motorists' speed in Packington

10 December 2010Cutting motorists' speed in Packington

New signs and an improved junction are helping to cut speeds through Packington.

Speed reducing measures have been introduced at two locations, on Ashby Road, and at the junction of Heather Lane and Normanton Road.

The measures, which cost 40,000, have been funded by Leicestershire County Council and Packington Parish Council in response to local concerns about speeding traffic.

On Ashby Road, new road markings and wooden gates highlight the entrance to Packington, and vehicle activated signs have been installed to remind motorists of the speed limit.

The layout of the Heather Lane and Normanton Road junction has been altered to slow motorists through this part of the village.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: We are pleased to have worked with the Parish Council to help address the local communitys concerns.

The improvements are designed to encourage motorists to slow down and help boost conditions for local residents and safety for all road users.

Notes:

A vehicle activated sign is a sign that has a blank face until triggered by an oncoming vehicle travelling above a preset speed. When triggered the sign displays a message to encourage the driver to slow down.
