Consultation launched about Moira and Donisthorpe schools
Posted on 09/11/10

A consultation exercise about changes to schools in Moira and Donisthorpe starts today (November 8th).
The consultation by Leicestershire County Council runs for 10 weeks, from November 8th to January 14th. A consultation leaflet has been widely distributed locally and consultation meetings are being held next week at each school.
Proposals are to:
Change Moira Infant School to a primary school by increasing its size and enabling Key Stage 2 children to attend
Reduce the size of Donisthorpe Primary School
Give each school a catchment area of its own to enable them to become similar sized schools.
The benefits would be to:
Improve the choice and access to primary education in the area
Avoid children having to change school when they move from key stage 1 (4-7-year-olds) to key stage 2 (7 -11-year-olds)
Position these schools at the heart of the local communities
Help to support the improvements to Donisthorpe Primary School.
Both Moira Infant School and Donisthorpe Primary School strongly support the proposal, as well as nearly 900 local people who signed a petition asking the County Council to consider the idea.
Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: I would urge all local people with an interest schools in schools in Moira and Donisthorpe to to take part in the consultation exercise.
We would like to hear the views of as many people as possible before any decisions are taken.
A report on the outcomes of the consultation is due to be presented to Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet in February. A final decision is due to be made by Cabinet in April. If approved, the proposed changes for Moira School could be in place by September 2011 and by September 2012 for Donisthorpe.
Respondents can take part in the consultation by either completing and returning the form in the consultation document or online at: www.leics.gov.uk/moiradon
Consultation meetings are being held at:
Moira Infant School, Main Hall, 6pm on Tuesday, November 16th
Donisthorpe Primary School, Main Hall, 6.30pm on Thursday, November 18th
