The Big Switch Off logoA runner will make a marathon effort to expend energy in a bid to get others to save it when he takes part in a charity fundraiser this weekend.

As well as raising cash for LOROS and The Matt Hampson Trust, Sam Howlett (26) of Broughton Astley, will be hoping to raise awareness of the Big Switch Off when he takes part in the Leicester half marathon.

Sam, who works for the Rural Community Council, will be donning a Big Switch Off T-shirt when he takes to the streets on Sunday.

He hopes the move will turn heads and encourage people to make an extra effort to turn off electrical gadgets that arent being used during Big Switch Off week which kicks off on Monday.

Sam said: I think the Big Switch Off is a really good idea I have been making an effort to save energy and reducing my bills.

Its an easy thing to do and I just want people to be aware of the campaign and think about ways they can also making savings.

He added: Im a Tigers season ticket holder and have lived in Leicestershire all my life so it was a natural choice to raise money for LOROS and the Matt Hampson Trust, both of which are close to many peoples hearts in the area.
