Police are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver was racially abused on Charles Street, Leicester.

The first incident happened at around 3pm on Saturday September 11 as the First number 88/88A bus was travelling along Charles Street.

The driver stopped at the traffic lights near to Halford Street and a man banged on the door wanting to get on the bus. The driver explained that he could not let him as he was not a stop so the man made a racist comment to the driver before walking off.

The second incident happened around 7.30pm the following day (Sunday September 12) when the same man tried to board the First number 54 bus being driven by the same driver.

The man was told due to his language the day before he would not be allowed to get on the bus. He did get on the bus but was asked to leave and whilst doing so, again made a racist comment to the driver.

The suspect is described as of Asian appearance, aged in his forties, of medium build, around 510 tall and had a black beard. On both occasions he was wearing a beige Kurta Pajama which is traditional Asian dress.

PC Jordan Robson, who is investigating the incident, said: As the victim of this incident is white and due the comments made to him we are treating this incident as racially motivated.

"Perhaps you witnessed either of these incidents or saw the man in the area at this time? Do you know him? I would urge you to contact us as we really need witnesses to come forward and give us their account of what happened.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 2966 Jordan Robson on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 2966. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
