Have your say on care proposals

Public meetings are being staged to discuss the County Councils proposals to focus care support on people with the greatest need.
Leicestershire County Council wants to know what people think about changes to its eligibility criteria the rules which govern who qualifies for care.
Leicestershire Local Involvement Network is staging two meetings, where people can question the county council Cabinet member David Sprason and Director of Adults and Communities, Mick Connell.
They take place on Friday, October 15, from 9.30am till noon, at Snibston Discovery Park, Coalville, and on Thursday, November 11, from 1.30pm till 4pm, at Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby.
For more information, or to book a place, please contact Kamini Patel on 0116 229 0329 or email kamini@ccp.org.uk
Background:
At the moment, the county council is one of only 20 per cent of authorities which supports care for people with moderate needs
The Council currently provides services to approximately 4,700 Leicestershire people whose needs have been assessed as moderate.; which means they might be unable to carry out some personal care or domestic routines.
Now, because the council needs to focus its reduced funding on the most vulnerable people, it is proposing to abolish the moderate category and concentrate on providing services to people with the most critical and substantial needs.
If the proposed change is approved, people with moderate needs will still be able to receive council support to promote their independence, including advice and information and reablement services but they would not have their long-term care needs met.
If approved, changes would start in April 2011. All existing service users will be re-assessed and given time and support to make alternative arrangements if necessary.
