Officers from Leicestershire Constabulary's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a serious traffic collision in Leicester last night.

The incident happened on Aikman Avenue, near to the junction with Mossgate, at about 8.35pm yesterday evening (Sunday October 3) and involved two vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Golf and a black Paggio Zip moped.

The rider of the moped was seriously injured and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment. He was later transferred to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where his current condition has been described as critical.

The driver of the Volkswagen didnt receive any injuries but was initially taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary as a precautionary method. He was discharged shortly after.

Detective Constable Darren Symes-Goodman, the officer investigating the incident, said: "Aikman Avenue is quite a busy road with a lot of houses on it. If you live there or were driving through the area last night you may have witnessed or heard the collision, if so please call us.
