A fast and furious night of ferret racing has been organised for families after a bit of bank holiday fun.

The event with a difference will be held at Bosworth Battlefield, which is run by Leicestershire County Council, on Monday, August 30.

Ferrets will take part in an assault course, weave around obstacles with the help of youngsters and forage for hidden titbits as part of a scent test at the "its a knock out style event.

People will get the chance to win prizes and support the furry competitors who include Lugless Dugless, Silver Bullet, Amble In and The White Bore.

The event has been organised by Hawkwise Falconry and will be held in Ambion Parva.

Becky Friar, from Hawkwise, said: This is a great chance for people to come along and meet the Hawkwise ferrets. They love being supported by visitors remember, the louder you clap, the faster they go!

David Sprason, Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities at Leicestershire County Council, said: This is a quirky event which promises a huge amount of fun for all the family. I would encourage anyone who would like to have a go at something a little bit different to come along to Bosworth on bank holiday Monday and find out more about these fantastic ferrets.

Gates will open at 5.15pm, with ferret racing taking place from 6.00 to 7.30pm. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic and chairs.

The cost of the event is 5 per adult, 2.50 per child and 10 for a family (two adults and two children). No booking is required but the event is dependent on the weather, so please call 07980 845637 on the day if you have any queries.
