Officers from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision on Melton Road.

The collision occurred at around 7.35pm on Saturday June 6, 2009 at the junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and involved a blue Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, Mr Bhagubhai Lad (61) of Leicester, received fatal injuries and pronounced dead at hospital.

The driver of the Golf was treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for a minor arm injury.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Adrian Price, who is investigating the incident, said: “The Golf was travelling along Melton Road county bound when the collision happened.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle or the pedestrian beforehand.

“We are also particularly interested in hearing from the drivers of two vehicles seen in the area at the time of the collision. One is a small red car which was travelling county bound and the other was a Renault Megane travelling city bound. We would ask the drivers of these vehicles to come forward and speak to us as they may have information which could be crucial to our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 635 Adrian Price on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0635. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
