Glastonbudget visitors reminded to keep their belongings safe
People going to this year’s Glastonbudget Festival in Leicestershire are being reminded to keep their property safe and leave valuable items at home.
At last year’s event, there were twenty seven crimes reported to the police – all of them were thefts from tents. Up to four and a half thousand people are expected to attend the event which is held in fields next to Turnpost Farm on East Road in Wymeswold. The festival, which is made up of tribute bands, runs from Friday 22nd May 2009 to Sunday 24th May 2009.
Inspector Duncan Southall, Commander of Charnwood Local Policing Unit, said; “Last year twenty seven tents were broken into, most of them on the Friday night, and items such as wallets, camera equipment and cash were stolen. Understandably visitors at a music event are focussed on having a good time but, unless they think about the safety of their personal belongings, they could end up facing the expense of replacing their stolen property.
“The best way to keep your stuff safe is not to bring it – if it isn't there, it can't be stolen. Tents don’t offer the most secure accommodation and your stuff is vulnerable while you are away from it and while you are asleep in it! Keep any cash, phones and music players in a zipped money belt at all times.”
The Force 'beat bus' will be at the event on the Friday and officers will be offering crime prevention advice as well as help and support. High visibility patrols will be running throughout the three days to deter criminals and reassure festival goers.
Steps to a safe and happy festival;
- If you can’t take your valuables with you when you leave the tent, leave them at home.
- Put money, tickets, credit cards and mobile phones in a zipped pocket or use a money belt.
- Leave your personal belongings at the bottom of your sleeping bag when you are asleep at night. This will make it difficult for anyone to get to your property.
- Do not bring large sums of cash. Only bring what you need and keep it on you at all times.
- Postcode the property you do bring to Glastonbudget so that it is identifiable. The police will return recovered property if they can reunite it with its owner.
- If you arrive by car, don’t leave anything on display in your vehicle including sat navs, car stereos, CDs or mobile phones. Don’t put items in your glove box or the boot, this is the first place a thief will look. Take everything with you or leave it at home.
