police, constabulary, leicestershire police Officers thank residents after report of missing child

Officers, who responded to a report of missing 2-year-old child yesterday, would like to a make a special thanks to local residents who assisted with their enquiries.

The girl was reported missing at around 1.05pm yesterday (Tuesday May 12, 2009) at a house on Drummond Road in the Beaumont Leys area where she was with a relative.

Police began carrying out enquiries and an extensive search of the house and the surrounding area was made.

At around 4.15pm, the child was returned to the house safe and well after being looked after by another relative.

Sergeant Adam Wardle, from Beaumont Leys local policing unit, said: “On our attendance to Drummond Road, it was clear there was a high degree of concern and a number of local residents were already aware that a 2-year-old local child was missing.

“Each person within the locality offered unanimous support for the family of the child and the Police, assisting with local area searches by utilising their knowledge to identify areas favoured by children and potential areas of danger and vulnerability. A few local residents offered direct support to the mother of the missing child and accompanied her throughout the incident.

“We would like to thank all of the local residents and businesses for their help as each individual involved put their time aside to assist in whatever way they could. The excellent community spirit and desire was evident from the outset and all of the residents and businesses in the area can be proud of their actions. We are aware that the family and close friends of the child are extremely grateful for the help of their local community.

“Local officers will be returning to the area over the following days to reinforce our support for the people in the area.”earches by utilising their knowledge to identify areas favoured by children and potential areas of danger and vulnerability.
