Students living in Clarendon Park in Leicester are being offered crime prevention advice and free property marking packs as part of an initiative to reduce burglaries in the area.

The neighbourhood team will be holding a beat surgery at the Age Concern book and coffee shop on Queens Road on Thursday May 14 from 10.30am to 1pm.

Students or those living in multi-occupancy houses in Clarendon Park are invited to attend to pick up their free ‘Smart Water’ property marking kit. PC Steve Douglas and PCSO Geoff Smith will also take the opportunity to speak with residents to discuss any concerns or issues they may have in the neighbourhood.

PCSO Geoff Smith said: “A number of burglaries reported to us are occurring in multi-occupancy houses and student houses. I have asked local letting agencies and the universities to support and promote our campaign to reduce these crimes.

“As well as handing out free ‘Smart Water’ kits, we are also willing to visit any house to conduct a survey of its security and to give advice”.

PC Steve Douglas added: “We have increased our patrols in the area to both reassure the community and to detect and deter criminals. We are visiting homes and speaking to the occupants about safeguarding property with ‘Smart Water’ kits. We would ask people to be on the look out and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police immediately.”

The number of ‘Smart Water’ kits available is limited and they will be handed out on a first come first served basis.

If you would like the Clarendon Park neighbourhood team to visit your house to conduct a crime reduction survey, please can contact them via the website, www.leics.police.uk or by calling PC 2128 Stephen Douglas on (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer’s identification number 2128.
