8 May 2009 Historic Walk Around Syston

Local author Roy Townsend will be leading those who wish to join him on a walk around Syston revealing the town’s history.

The walk will take place on Tuesday 23rd June starting from Syston Library at 7pm and returning to the library for cheese and wine and a chance to view some historic photographs of Syston. Tickets cost £1 and can be booked by calling Syston Library on 0116 3053500. Places are limited so booking in advance is necessary.

Roy Townsend has previously written a number of books about Leicestershire’s local history and has devised this guided walk after conducting extensive research into the Syston’s history. His first book ‘Inn-vestigated’ was published in 2005 and looks into the origins of public house names, he then produced a pamphlet about Francis ‘Tanky’ Smith Leicester’s first detective, and his most recent book ’Almost Forgotten’ gives details of the famous and infamous characters from Leicestershire’s past.
