Shopkeeper assaulted on Stonesby Avenue
Officers investigating a robbery, at a shop on Stonesby Avenue, have identified a possible key witness.
The incident happened on Friday January 16 when 4 youths entered the shop and attempted to steal alcohol.
When the owner of the shop tried to stop the youths he was hit in the face. The youths then made their escape through the front of the shop, leaving empty handed.
Officers have been following a number of lines of enquiry. CCTV evidence has revealed the four youths ran away from the shop nearly running into a woman as they made their way across Stonesby Avenue and it is this woman the police are trying to trace.
Sgt Gavin Collins, the officer investigating the incident, said: "We are keen to talk to the woman we saw on the CCTV footage. The youths were running at quite a pace and they would have been very noticeable having nearly ran into her. If you are this woman we are sure that you would remember these youths nearly running into you and urge you to contact us with any information you may have.
"We want people who were in the area at the time to think back, did you see four youths acting suspiciously? Did you see where they ran to? Any information you have could help us with our investigation."
Three of the youths were described as being white, aged around 15 to 16-years-old and around 5'8" tall.
One of the youths was said to be wearing a navy blue coat, one wearing a grey coat and the third dressed all in black with a scarf covering his face.
Anybody with any information is asked to contact Sgt 687 Gavin Collins on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0687. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
