Event aims to reunite burglary victims with their property
Officers from Welford Road Police Station are hoping to reunite burglary victims in the area with their stolen property.
More than 150 items, which are believed to have been stolen, are being put on display at an open event at Marriott Road Primary School on Friday February 20, 2009.
The stolen property mainly comprises of electrical equipment, such as games consoles and mobile phones, as well as a small quantity of jewellery. It was recovered by officers as part of an operation to tackle burglaries in the area.
Victims of burglary are invited to attend the school any time between 11am and 8pm on Friday to view the property and hopefully identify it as belonging to them.
PC Stuart Milnes from Welford Road police station who is organising the event said: "Having your home burgled and property stolen can be a devastating experience. We hope this open event may help to reunite some victims of burglary with their possessions.
"If you have been a victim of burglary in the Saffron Lane, Eyres Monsell and Gilmorton Estate area of Leicester, and your stolen property is still outstanding, then please come along to this event. Officers will be on hand to assist you during the viewing and please remember to bring proof of ownership with you.
"Leicestershire Constabulary is committed to tackling offences of burglary which cause so much misery for victims and bringing offenders to justice. If you have any information about burglaries in the area then please call the police or Crimestoppers."
The property was recovered by officers during an operation in November 2008. Therefore only victims of burglary before this date should attend the event.
For more information call PC 2204 Stuart Milnes at Welford Road Police Station on 0116 222 2222. Follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 2204.
Alternatively if you have information about a burglary and wish to remain anonymous then call Crimestoppers free-of-charge* on 0800 555 111.
* Please note some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
