Appeal following distraction burglary in Great Dalby

Police are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary in Great dalby.

The incident happened at around 6.45pm on Tuesday, February 10 when the victim answered her door to two men and two youths. The youths were claiming they were looking for a dog, and the men said they were police officers.

The youths are described as white, between 12 and 15-years old and of slim build.

The men are described as white, between 19 and 23-years-old and between 5'7" and 5'8" tall.

A wallet and cash were stolen in the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have been visited in similar circumstances is asked to contact the police.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Constabulary said: "Sadly there are unscrupulous people out there who try to con their way into your home. Fitting, and using, a door chain or spy hole to the front door will help you to check who the caller is before opening and if they cannot produce an official identity card then do not let them in. You can even ring the company they say they are from to confirm their identity.

"A genuine caller will not mind you checking their ID and most will be happy to make an appointment and return at a later date or time. If you are in any doubt contact the police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 954 John Scott on 0116 222 2222 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 0594.
