Police support Week of Action in three city neighbourhoods
A ‘Week of Action' in three city neighbourhoods will see police officers teaming up with street cleansers, graffiti removal teams, housing officers, other agencies and residents to improve the area for the local community.
The Week of Action, which starts on Monday February 16 will take place in Eyres Monsell, New Parks and the Fosse ward in Leicester.
It has been funded through the Safer Leicester Partnership and aims to address issues identified by these communities such as dog fouling, drugs misuse, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Leicester City Council's cabinet member for health and community safety, Councillor Culdipp Bhatti, said: "As Chair of the Safer Leicester Partnership, I am pleased to promote these Weeks of Action that make such a difference for local people. They show that, in Leicester, we can be confident that the police and the city council can work together with other partners to tackle concerns raised by local residents."
Chief Inspector Andy Sharp from Leicestershire Constabulary said: "This Week of Action will enable the police and other agencies to focus their efforts on issues that residents in these areas have told us are of most concern to them.
"The main focus of the week will be enforcement in relation to anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and any other issues identified as a community priority. However the initiative has been timed to coincide with half term week and officers will also be engaging with young people throughout the week, encouraging them to take pride in their community and providing positive activities for them to get involved with."
A range of activities are planned during the week including clean up days, test purchase operations at off licences, graffiti removal, parking enforcement, security improvements to homes, tree planting and basketball coaching.
Leaflets or newsletters have been distributed to homes in each of the three areas to inform residents about the Week of Action and the activities taking place.
For more information about activities taking place as part of the Week of Action call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222 and leave a message by entering the voicemail number 9091 for the Fosse ward, 9082 for Eyres Monsell or 9080 for New Parks.
