9 February 2009 Falcons and Ferrets at Bosworth Battlefield

Experience the age old art of falconry with local falconers and Country Park   Rangers at Bosworth Battlefield in Sutton Cheney, on Sunday 22 February, 11.00 - 3.00pm.

The day/morning session begins at 11.00am with an interactive hawk walk around the beautiful and historic Battlefield Country Park led by experienced and knowledgeable falconers. This is followed by the chance to see the birds take flight in an exciting falconry demonstation and test you skills in a handling session.

In the afternoon it’s time to pick your winner in a fun session of ferret racing lead by the country park rangers.

Prices for the Falconry and Ferrets Day are £20.00 Family (2 adults and 4 children) Family £16.00 (2 adults & 2 children) Adults £6.00, Child/Concessions £4.00 and booking is essential on 01455 290 429.

The medieval timbered Tithe Barn Restaurant will be serving Sunday Lunch from 12.00noon - 2.00pm and a selection of hot and cold snacks throughout the day, tables can be reserved on 01455 291 048.

Ernie White, County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services said: ”It’s a great day for all the family, with hands-on sessions throughout the day and the chance to learn more about these majestic creatures and have fun with the ferret racing session.”

David Luther, Country Park Ranger, adds: “The event is a rare chance to get up close and personal with the birds and ferrets in our interactive sessions and to ask the experts any questions you may have – all in the historic backdrop of Bosworth Battlefield Country Park.”

The dramatic events of the Battle of Bosworth,1485, can be experienced in a new, interactive exhibition at the Battlefield Heritage Centre, which recently won the bronze award for Small Visitor Attraction at the East Midlands Tourism Enjoy England Awards. Background: Bosworth Battlefield is run by Leicestershire County Council and is the location of the Battle of Bosworth. The battle, which took place on 22 August 1485, brought an end to 30 years of English civil war, now known as the War of the Roses and saw the infamous King Richard III lose both his life and crown to Henry Tudor. The Battlefield includes a new exhibition telling the story of the Battle and looking at its impact on British history, which has been funded by an award from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
