Criminal damage to a taxi on Belgrave Gate

Police in the City Centre are appealing for information after an incident of criminal damage to a taxi.

The incident took place at around 3.20pm on Saturday January 24, 2009 when a taxi driver picked up three men on Belgrave Gate near to the junction with Orchard Street.

The driver and the men became involved in an altercation and the driver was racially abused by one of them.

The men got out of the taxi and one of them left. The other two men then damaged the taxi using a paving slab and a roadwork sign causing a smashed passenger window, dents and scratches.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquires.

PC Waheed Nagdi, who is investigating this incident, said: "We would urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact us as soon as possible.

"We would appeal to anyone who was in the Belgrave Gate area at around this time to think back and see if they remember witnessing this incident.

"Even the smallest details can prove key so I would ask anyone with any information to get in touch."
