Murder investigation launched

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 21-year-old woman was discovered at a house in Oadby.

The body was found at around 7.45pm on Monday January 19 by officers at an address in High Leys Drive, Oadby.  The woman has not yet been formally identified.

The scene remains cordoned off to allow for detailed forensic examination to take place.  House to house enquiries are also being carried out in the area.

Police had gone to the house as part of ongoing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 22-year-old man.  His body was found at around 5.45pm on Sunday January 18 at the foot of a stairwell at Alexandra House flats in Rutland Street, Leicester.  At this stage there is nothing to indicate any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Detective Superintendent Stuart Prior, who is leading the investigation, said: "From our enquiries we understand that this young couple had been in a relationship that had recently ended.

"The post mortems are set to take place later this afternoon at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the results of these, coupled with detailed examination of the scenes will give us a clearer picture of what happened.

"Although we are still in the early stages of the investigation and are keeping an open mind we are not, at this stage, seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

"To help us piece together exactly what happened we need to establish their last known movements.  We know that they left Alexandra House together at around 3pm in a yellow Rover and that the man returned by himself to the flats later.

"I am appealing to anyone who saw the yellow Rover registration number PJ04 VTK over the weekend in the Leicester or Oadby area to get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on (0116) 222 2222 and quote incident number 538 18:01:09 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is free* and anonymous.
